Follow words and columns

1. Choose Word or Line

Follow each word or line.

Find it: Settings → Reading → Follow Highlight

Which following style suits you?
Mode	What it does	Try it when
Word	The supplied app describes a yellow spoken-word highlight with the sentence shaded gray.	You want to track the exact word being spoken.
Line	Follows the spoken line with fewer visual updates.	You prefer to follow a line rather than each individual word.

Try both styles

Start a familiar paragraph.
Open Settings, then find the Reading group at the top.
Tap Word in the Follow Highlight control.
Tap Done and watch a short passage while you listen.
Return to the same control and choose Line. Tap Done and compare the visual following.

Keep the column in view.

LEFT COLUMN

Start at the top.

Follow the left column.

RIGHT COLUMN

Continue at the right.

Follow the article.

The switch follows the display down each column; it does not change extracted reading order.

Find it: Settings → Reading → Auto Follow Columns

Use column following

Open a two-column PDF.
Open Settings → Reading.
Enable Auto Follow Columns, directly below Follow Highlight.
Tap Done and listen while checking where the spoken text appears on the page.
Turn it off to restore the regular view.

Tap a word to begin there.
